Artist Statement

I am really interested  in the creative process. My creative journey is very diverse. From art school studying textiles and embroidery to professional puppeteer for many years, I have always maintained an interest in ‘making things’ from fabric.  Fabric puppets, fabric sets and props.  I am fascinated by pattern and colour and from an early age made patchwork objects.  2020 led me to live very much like my grandmother did, making things at home from the materials I found around me.

All my work is inspired by drawing and all things textiles, especially embroidery. Landscape fascinates me and I take my sketchbook with me everywhere I go.  Drawing is the centre of everything, it teaches you to look. Over the last 5 years I have had more headspace to observe and record the world around me and explore different ways of translating ‘my funny little drawings’ into mixed media pieces.

I really enjoy learning new techniques, using mixed media creatively and interacting with other artists, and sharing my skills with everyone who wants to learn about textiles.
