Artist Statement

I have a strong interest in textiles, especially those created in a domestic context. I appreciate hand skills and the imagination required to use them. I have recently completed an Honours Degree at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Textile Design as a mature student and am open to commissions.

My recent textile artwork explores mark making on aged and damaged surfaces such as stone steps, industrially cleaned bus shelters and communal tables. I considered the marks made by people, weather and time. The way that these unintentional marks and interactions create their own aesthetic on liminal landscapes. Screenprinted with hand mixed dyes, and discharged into many times to build layers. The large pieces have fine lines of stitching or areas of densely stitched ‘drawing’ with thread. I also create portraiture using both traditional and non-traditional means such as Bojagi.
