Artist Statement
I’m a lover of all things print and stitch. My inspiration mostly comes from the built environment, anything from grungy industrial landscapes, sleek modern skyscrapers to the most beautiful old architecture. I have a particular soft spot for the textures and buildings of Venice.
I’m also interested in how we live in our environment, having somewhere to call home, the importance of community, infrastructure and accessible green spaces.
I always travel with a sketchbook and I’m an active member of Edinburgh Urban Sketchers, gathering my observational drawings and images to work with later. This may take the form of textiles, mixed media or book forms.
My textile work starts with painting or printing backgrounds, often collaging elements together informed by the colours, shapes and patterns from my inspiration, with stitch as a final layer.
My aim is for the viewer to feel a sense of place or evoke a memory.
