My main interest is in exploring the use of fibres in feltmaking, and combining these with digital photography and stitchery. I find this a very expressive means of translating paint to fabric, retaining many of the painterly qualities in the felt and creating many different textures.
I am inspired by the glories of the natural world and wild places, the sea, birds and fish. I have recently been working on a series of seascapes, incorporating paint, hand and machine stitching, print and digital photography with felt and applied fabrics. Following a visit to Egypt and Jordan I was fascinated by the rock formations of Petra and the depictions of birds in ancient Egyptian art and am now also working to try and draw some parallels between them and my previous work on seabirds.
