Inspired by the creation myths in Daughters of Copper Woman by Anne Cameron, I have been creating boats and coracles using a wide mix of materials, including glass, fabric, latex, clay, paper, string, felt, thread, wood.
I tend to work in three dimensions, having trained as a sculptor, but using soft materials. I find I need to be able to see/work on all sides and also like transparency/semi transparency. I work usually on a small scale – can be held in the hand – but often in multiples.
I also like to make books, paper and eco dye fabrics.
I have exhibited several times with “edge” and have some small pieces in their forthcoming exhibition in Kirkcudbright.
I am presently working on pieces for the forthcoming Dundee Whaling Exhibition, inspired by a visit to the MacManus museum store in Dundee.
