Inspired by the creation myths in Daughters of Copper Woman by Anne Cameron, I have been creating boats and coracles using a wide mix of materials, including glass, fabric, latex, clay, paper, string, felt, thread, wood.
The latest piece ‘Strange Fish’ ties in with the boat theme and the title was inspired by Nina Simone singing ‘Strange Fruit’.
I also have been making ‘lockdown’ drawings inspired by the snow and ice earlier this year (2021).
I tend to work in three dimensions using soft materials, having trained as a sculptor. I find I need to be able to see/work on all sides and also like transparency/semi transparency. I work usually on a small scale – can be held in the hand – but often in multiples.
I also like to make books, paper and eco dye fabrics.
I have exhibited several times with edge.
