Artist Statement
My current work is focused on the seashore around Kirkcudbright where I live: after the tide has receded and the rocks are still wet and rich in colour and texture. It is this observation of nature that I translate into abstract images. Sketchbooks are constantly on the go; if it makes it into my sketchbook, more often than not it will become stitch. Inevitably my early training as an illustrator influences my use of drawing in developing ideas. My embroideries often have a strong graphic element which binds the work together and allows for the creation of abstract concepts. I use thread and fabric almost as a paint medium.
