Artist Statement

Sketching to stitch has long been my motivator. Observation of the physical landscape around my home in South West Scotland is important. It is this connection with nature that provides an endless source of inspiration. If an idea makes it into my sketchbook, it will inevitably be translated into a mixed media composition using a combination of paint, dyed fabric and stitch. I use fabric and thread almost as a paint medium.

My early training as an illustrator influences most of my work. A strong graphic element binds my work together allowing for the creation of abstract images. I constantly endeavour to interpret form into interesting textile art.
