Artist Statement

I am a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art where I studied Dress Design, Printed and Woven Textiles.
My historical references are Celtic patterns, decorative clothing, particularly Elizabethan and Crewel work.

I continually experiment with yarns, many of them not considered for stitch, and with “embroidery ” Stitches pushing them towards new forms.

My fascination with plants ‐ their infinite variety, colour, texture and growth – can be seen in most of my work. In the jackets I make where leaves and flowers are often combined with zoomorphic Celtic forms and in my wall hangings.

At present I am working with layering and cutting away translucent and open weave fabrics to reveal leaves etc. at different depths as they might be found in nature and as our eyes might register them.
