Artist Statement
I am a graduate of Glasgow School of Art where I studied ceramics and sculpture, using diverse media such as textiles, clay, plaster, drawing and film. More recently I completed the City and Guilds Diploma in Patchwork and Quilting.
Utilising treasured memorabilia, my themes include childhood, feelings of difference, self-discovery and figurative imagery.
I incorporate found and recycled objects and manipulated fabric in my work, using materials such as paper and PVA glue to create textiles.
Some of my recent work focuses on my hut at Carbeth, built early last century from factory fish boxes. It is a labour of love, requiring constant repair and protection from the elements. It is a metaphor for the healing I get from working at the hut, drawing, painting, patching and mending, while immersed in nature.
