Artist Statement

I am a visual, mixed media textile storyteller from Moray. I identify as a queer, menopausal, disabled, neurodivergent, care giver and my work reflects this intersectional nature of self. My methodology cycles through continual creative loops; gather, create, destroy, repeat. Through exploration of heritage crafts and contemporary artistic practice, nature’s reciprocity, mark making, and recording takes place both on the materials and myself.

Personal responses and socially engaged group work ply together within my larger practice.

My pieces are migratable artefacts, tactile repositories of the traced and forsaken. Using foraged materials and gathered information, plants and place become abstracted into colour and pattern with echoes of both macro and micro, deep time and precise provenance. Copper and lead representing conduction, transformation, and protection. My pieces continue to interact and evolve as dye fades and metal tarnishes, a challenge issued to the empirical heteronormative, holding layers of place, time, and self.
