Work by Aileen Neilson :: Poem by Gerda Stevenson
In Memoriam
For Catriona White, teacher 1951-2015, Edinburgh, and over a thousand stitchers – almost all women – of The Great Tapestry of Scotland.

Artist’s statement
I was initially hesitant in selecting the Epilogue ‘ In Memoriam ‘, but was immediately inspired by the visual images. The butterfly, cornfields, and cello: I could visualise the movement of music flowing throughout. The butterfly had to be a Painted Lady and the cello bow combined to be a needle stitching and weaving threads of movement.
The collection of images had to be displayed in a memorial box.
I also realised the other common connections to Catriona White as I was a teacher, stitcher and also born in 1951.
