The Fish Pool
Several years ago on a lunch time visit to the National Museum on Chambers St, I took some photos of the fish pools. When the museum was closed for renovations I started to wonder whether the fish pools would return, and if this may be the time to make a piece of work from the images I’d taken. I started with coloured paper pieces and watercolour but couldn’t decide what textile medium to use. To give me time to work this out I decided to paint a piece in acrylics – this led to several paintings, each one becoming more abstract. The paintings lacked something of the movement I was trying to convey, and it was at this point I began painting on silk to help give me the effect I was looking for.
