Going South
The first of my husband’s 4 trips to the Antarctic – or Going South – was in 1998 and I’ve watched, listened and read how each has differed and impressions altered.
My starting point for the pieces comes from first impressions of magnificence and aloneness, surprising colour and fragmentation of the old, ageing ice – and, running as a current beneath, memories of the explorers and their fragile ships, like the ‘Endurance’ imprisoned in the ice.
Images which suit my interest in working with fragments and plates and helped create this piece.
