Mail Box in the Agapanthus
I have often visited the subject of postal communication, particularly letters, accounts and bundles of documents that can be found among forgotten belongings. More recently I have looked at mail boxes mainly in the USA.
My latest investigation has featured the mail boxes I saw while on my travels in New Zealand. They differ from the ones I have seen in other parts of the world, as these have a stamp of real individuality and often quirky humorous additions to their structures. For this piece I have moved closer to using a painterly approach using acrylics and canvas material, while at the same time developing a more graphic simplified visual imagery through the use of shapes and patterns achieved from cut outs.
I juggle with these shapes to bring them into a representation of the colourful jolly and cheeky displays of these functional items that may be seen on any highway in New Zealand.
