From Landscape to Abstraction

I have always enjoyed the process of working with fabric and thread. Recently I have been combining photography, sketching and markmaking in my work to record features in the physical landscape that somehow encapsulate its spirit.

‘Landmarks’ isolates certain features in landscape and modifies them into an abstract representation. It can be a stream gently gliding over stones, a rushing torrent of a waterfall, the ebb and flow of tides in a river, historical artefacts, combined with the seasonal changes of the land. Abstraction allows me to create a personal version of the real.
