Artist Statement

Brought up in Lancashire, cloth and stitch were deeply embedded from an early age. The beautiful moors, glens and woods inspired a love of nature in all its forms. My recent work reflects my fascination with our coastlines, with their beautiful seashores and secluded harbours. These coastlines are the liminal edges between land and sea, with a freedom and a wildness which is set against the tranquillity and protection of the sheltering harbours. The seashores offer up a wealth of shells, pebbles, seaweed and flotsam to collect and which I use in my assemblages together with paper, fabric, print, threads and stitch. Crinan harbour is the gateway to the Hebrides, and is full of colour, movement and reflections in the water. I try to capture the essence of these magical places.
