EXHIBITIONS:
KATE DAUDY + KOSTYA NOVOSELOV: WONDERCHAOS
8 Sep – 6 Oct 2021
Bothy Gallery and Open Air
Visual artist Kate Daudy and physicist Kostya Novoselov present Wonderchaos: an exploration of the many facets of chaos and the inevitability of order as a result of it. We are invited to reflect upon our individual experiences of these universal phenomena as part of Daudy and Novoselov’s ongoing common project entitled, Everything is Connected. Works include an intervention using YSP’s sheep to illustrate random number theory and Daudy’s first steel sculpture exploring myths of chaos, creation and the origins of language.
ANNIE MORRIS: WHEN A HAPPY THING FALLS
25 Sep 2021 – 6 Feb 2022
The Weston Gallery and Open Air
The Weston Gallery will be transformed by a dense selection of Morris’ vibrant, pigmented sculptures, alongside one of the artists’ ‘thread paintings’. Her work combines drawing, tapestry and personal ciphers with mark-making and structures that sit between abstraction and figuration. The vivid hues of her precarious and iconic Stacks – first made as testimonies of the grief of losing her first child – have now become affirming symbols and signifiers of life, hope and creativity.
MATTY BOVAN: BOOMERANG
22 Oct – 26 Oct 2021
Bothy Gallery
Announced in 2021 as the winner of the International Woolmark Prize and the Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation, the award-winning fashion designer, Matty Bovan, will take over the Bothy Gallery for a pop-up exhibition at YSP. Entitled Boomerang, Bovan references Instagram culture, identity and who controls it.
This immersive, participatory art installation will blur sculpture, fashion and photography, questioning constructs of authorship and personal ‘brand’ in the age of social media via wearable artworks and photo documentation taken throughout the exhibition.
FUTURE20 x STUDIO MORISON
Studio Morison are working with Future20 Collective members SAF-S2E, Jahday Ford and Melissa Sorrell to reimagine and reinterpret Heather Peak and Ivan Morison’s installation Silence – Alone in a World of Wounds, by YSP’s Upper Lake. Whilst the work invites us to be silent, it also asks us to spend time listening to the surrounding natural environment. Artists SAF-S2E, Ford and Sorrell will use this as inspiration for a new work: a composition of site-specific audio experiences, accompanied by moving images.
